Will of Edward Cleasby of Reeth, in the parish of Grinton, 20th June, 1793
In the name of God, Amen I Edward Cleasby of Reeth in the parish of Grinton and County of York, being weak in Body, but of perfect and sound mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make, publish and declare this, to be my last Will and Testament, in manner and form following ~ I devise and bequesth to my Wife, Isabella Cleasby, to receive, the interest of the third part of my person al effects, while she continues my Widow. _ I also dev ise and bequeath to my two Sons, John Cleasby & James Cleasby all the rest of my personal effects whatsoever to be equally divided between them both, and if my Wife aforesaid die, before my two Sons, John, and James Cleasby, then the share which my Wife partook of while living, shall be divided equally between my two aforesaid Sons with all the rest of my personal effects. And If one of my Sons die and the other survives, then the Survivor shall receive the whole of my personal effects, as his lawful right of property. But if they both live, till they arrive at ond and twenty years of Age, till then, they shall receive only the interest of my personal Effect, and not any of the princip al, and if one dies, and the other Survives, the Survivor shall receive only the interest of my personal Effects, until he arrives at the Age of one and twenty years _ And if they both live to the aforesaid Age of one and twenty, then the whole principal of my personal effects shall be divided Equally between them both. _ But if my two aforesaid Sons, John and James Cleasby die, before they arrive at the Age of twenty one years, and my Wife Isabella Cleasby Survives them, She shall receive the interest of all my personal Effects, while she lives, if she continues my Widow if not, that is, if she marries again, she shall be deprived of all the interest, as well as the principal of all my personal effects. _ And if my Wife, and my two aforesaid Sons should all die, before my two aforesaid Sons come of Age, even to one and twenty years. Then all my peronal effects, shall devolve, or fall, to my Brothers and Sisters, to be divided equally among them, except my two Brothers Anthony and David Cleasby, who shall be entitled to, and receive Twenty pounds each, more than any, or either, of my Brothers or Sisters, besides _ I also appoint my two aforesaid Brothers Anthony and David Cleasby to be whole and sole Executors, to receive all my law ful debts, and to pay all my Funeral Expenses and all my just and lawful debts, and to bring up my two Sons aforesaid, with the inter est of my personal effects, which I their father Edward Cleasby have left them; Whereof I have hereunto put my Hand and Seal this twenty eighth day of January, One thousand, seven hun dred and ninety one, in the Thirty first year of the Reign of our Sovereign Said George the Third
