Will of John Cleasby of Ravenseat, parish of Grinton, 1809
In the Name of God Amen I John Cleasby of
Ravenseat in the Parish of Grinton and north Riding
of the County of York Gentleman being of sound and
disposing Mind and memory (Thanks be given to almighty
God, do mark and publish this my last Will and
Testament in Manner and Form following. That is to say,
I give and bequeath unto my son Anthony Cleasby all that
my Copyhold Estate, situate and being at Ravenseat afore
said, which I have surrendered into the Hands of the
Lord of the manor to the use of my Will bearing Date the
Third day of March, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Two -
he the said my Son Anthony Cleasby paying out of the said
Estate unto my Son Thomas Cleasby the Sum of Two xxx
Hundred and Fifty Pound__________________________________
And as touching my Personal Estate which God has been
pleased to bestow upon me, I give and bequeath in Manner
following, first I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Jackson
Widow of Thomas Jackson of Low Widdale, the Sum of One
Hundred Pounds, also to my Daughter Mary, Wife of John
Robson of Brough in Westmorland the sum of One Hundred
and Fifty Pounds, also to my Grandson, Jim Alderson of Close
Hills in the said Parish of Grinton, the sum of One Hundred
Pounds, also to my Granddaughter Jane Alderson of Close Hills
aforesaid the sum of Fifty Pounds, also to my Granddaughter
Eleanor Anderson of Close Hills the Sum of Fifty Pounds also
to my Granddaughter Mally Alderson of Close Hills the Sum of Fifty Pounds
also to my Granddaughter Nancy Alderson of Close Hills, the Sum
of Fifty Pounds and lastly I give and bequeath all the
Residue of my Personal Estate unto my two Sons David
Cleasby and Thomas Cleasby they my said sons David
and Thomas, to take care of and provide for jointly my Daughter
Nanny Cleasby who it has pleased God to afflict with
blindness..........And lastly I nominate, constitute and
Appointing two Sons David Cleasby and Thomas Cleasby
Joint executors of this my will and testament and after
Paying all my just debts, Funeral expenses and ??? This
will the Residue or Remainder, to be divided between them
share and share alike. ______ And I do hereby revoke disannul
and make void all former wills Ratifying and confirming
this and no other to be my last Will and Testament contained
in one Sheet of Paper signed with my name and sealed
with my seal this Third day of June, One Thousand Eight

Cleasby and Thomas Cleasby the executors within named and were hereby
sworn to administer the Goods &C of the within named John Cleasby deceased
And that to the Best of their Knowledge and Belief they did not Amount to
the Sum of Eight Hundred Pounds.
